HSBCAD MAKAR Inverness 097

MAKAR are proud to be 2025 finalists in the Highland Business Awards for Innovation!

This award celebrates businesses leading the way with creative thinking, bold ideas, and innovative solutions across the Highlands. In particular, this shortlisting recognises MAKAR’s approach to home building, which represents a fundamental shift from traditional construction to precision manufacturing.

MAKAR’s innovative approach has positioned us as a leader in Net Zero healthy homes. A precision manufacturing system and modular approach have achieved substantial cost reductions by eliminating waste, streamlining assembly processes, and enabling repeatable and scalable panel production.

Build time reduction from 6 – 18 months to 3 – 4 weeks (to external completion) represents a fantastic improvement in housing delivery speed, allowing for efficiency gains from both offsite manufacturing and assembly that do not compromise on the high quality of the housing product. For residents, running costs from £5 per week, represent real affordability in social housing, reducing fuel poverty whilst maintaining exemplary comfort standards. Environmental performance exceeds industry standards, with 27% lower embodied carbon than comparable homes and 39 tonnes CO2 sequestered per dwelling, demonstrating genuine environmental benefits through local material utilisation.

Our innovative approach to affordable housing manufacture is attracting significant attention from those seeking scalable Net Zero solutions. The first set of these sets of homes has gained planning permission on the Isle of Lismore, with planning and warrants also approved for a prototype home at MAKAR’s facility in Inverness, to provide a showcase for potential clients.
