Strathnairn Forest Shelter

A new shelter for a community woodland group built within the forest to be used for a variety of uses by the local school and community members. The shelter comprises a covered a covered enclosed element with extensive decked areas. Large garage type doors open up to allow access onto the deck.The timber for the shelter was supplied by the community group from their own woodland, and milled nearby using a portable saw. The main structural frame is Douglas Fir with simple bolted connections. The deck, cladding and handrails are made from more durable Larch. The roof is finished with sedum on a waterproof rubber membrane. The shelter is not insulated and intended for use only when weather conditions allow.
