Butler House, Skye

This 2 bedroom  house and associated  1 bed annex is located on a steeply sloping site at Teangue, Sleat, Isle of Skye. The Architects design concept for the steep site was to position a long narrow building to follow the contours,  minimizing disruption  and earthworks  on the hillside. The house is entered from the North East side, allowing  all rooms to open up to the South West views over to Loch Hourn and Knoydart.

The house is mainly single storey, but features  a second living room on an upper level. This room will have panoramic  views. The external appearance is contemporary with Scottish  larch cladding  and large areas of glazing. A gently sloping, lightweight  metal roof sits over the building;  and extends over entry and decked areas to provide covered  external space.

MAKAR floor, wall and roof sub assemblies  have over 300mm of recycled newspaper  insulation.  This, in addition to airtight detailing and air souce heating, keeps the house warm.
